Tricky start but all skiing

Sorry for the delay in blogging this morning...

Good start to the day at the hotel.. Everyone was well rested and up for breakfast... Room inspections were much better than yesterday so parents, when you ask them to tidy their rooms and fold clothes there should be no excuses ;-)

We got out boots on and walked up the road to the gondola, however it became evident that the lift had stopped and a lot of skiers were leaving by car and bus.  Unfortunately the wind at the top of the mountain was too strong to operate the lifts so our ski resort was shut down, as was fruigen where we had skied yesterday... However fear not, there is always a plan 'c' so after a few quick calls we confirmed another ski area (kaltenbach... Checked it this time and got the right place!!) was protected by the wind and open so a quick retask of kit and coaches and we were underway.

It seemed though that every one else was headed to the same destination so the queues to get on the gondola were enormous.  A stiff British upperlip, heads down and in we dived! I have to say the pupils were incredibly patient and worked as a team to progress through to the lift and we eventually made it to the summit where the ski instructors wasted no time in getting them on the piste.

At the end of the day we are partaking in a sport that is completely dependant on weather conditions so have to take the rough with the smooth and although our day has been a little disrupted everyone is on the snow now and enjoying themselves.

The rep and I have sorted a change of venue for lunch and I'm trying to bag a many tables as possible now to make sure everyone can sit and eat in teams so  plan 'c' is going well :-)

I will try to get some more images up later and more pupil will be blogging later too

To all at Humphrey Perkins... Have a nice day at school :-) no danger of any of my pupils messing around in ski lessons... Snowball consequences for any that dare :-D

(just like the next January sale but with cooler clothes!!)

  3. Great Job in finding an open resort.
Forecast looks OK ish for the rest of the week; it shouldn't be as windy.
Did you go to Gerlos Pass?
It is the nearest thing to 'Klusplies' I could find. Believe me, I have looked!
It is a pretty good candidate as it is in Zillertal ski area, about 40 minutes away and open.
Nice 360 webcam at the Talstation but no sign of the coach in the car park though.
Anyway, hope you had a great days skiing despite the trials.
