Challenging day but a good one

After a nice hot lunch the pupils headed back out into to the windy conditions and skied the rest of the afternoon. I have been skiing for many years and can honesty say that the wind speed and chill factor was some of the hardest I've skied in, yet our kids, most only having one days skiing behind them did themselves proud.  They battled the wind and conditions and skied really well... The instructors were really impressed and very complimentary about their determination and effort despite the conditions.

After they finished skiing they all worked as a team in the crowd and safely made their way down by the gondola.

So far our pupils have skied in heavy snow and wind so when the weather breaks and we have clear conditions, their ability will increase dramatically in clear conditions and will be experienced in skiing in all types of weather.  The weather forecast is better for tomorrow with a chance of snow but far less wind.  Thanks to the parents who are also keeping an eye on the conditions and updating us too.

Despite the slow start and wind the kids had a great day on the slopes and were all still full of smiles and stories when they got back on the coach.. Did themselves and us proud today.

After dinner at the hotel and a quick shower we headed into town for an evening of bowling.  Girls verses boys was the competition of choice and after the semi finals were completed we had a final match between Lucy and Josh.. It was right to the line but the night was won by Lucy with the last ball of the game!

Back to the hotel for a briefing for the following day.  I took the time then to read back the comments left by parents on the blog which the pupils really enjoyed, it's great to get feedback from home and they love to know that you are following their progress... So please keep commenting.

Final order of the the day... The hand over of 'Twonk' for the day tomorrow... Plenty of funny stories and nominations, however the winner and recipient of the Twonk hat and t-shirt was taken by the same pupil who won the bowling competition... Lucy Frampton, apparently she was instrumental in taking out a number of skiers on a tow lift today much to the amusement of most of her group.  Lucy was especially pleased to be Twonk tomorrow as she will be celebrating her 13th birthday.. So we have a birthday Twonk!! We will all be celebrating with her tomorrow and what a place to have your birthday :-)

I will finish off the blog today with some words from our skiers:

Mia:
I'ts great here, a lot better than yesterday, I enjoyed going down a larger slope and the ski lifts were really high, even higher than yesterday. Thanks for your comment dad, really missing you and everyone else, looking forward to going down steeper slopes and going on the cable cars.

Jack:
At skiing today we learnt to turn, yesterday we didn't go down a big one but today we went Down a really big slope. It was funny because josh fell off the tl-ift and slid down the hill. Tomorrow I would like to go down a more tilted slope

Georgie:
Today we went on a much larger slope that went down really far. As soon as I set off, I fell straight down, again! Once you get to the bottom, you have to catch a ski-lift back up to the top. They take ages and they're really hard to stay on. I fell off several times in a row! I just kept falling into the fresh powder below and losing my skis! It's really hard to get up because when you try to heave yourself up with your elbows, your elbows just sink back into it again. I took plenty of good photos and we even when bowling this evening which made me really hyper! So far I have had so much fun and I can't wait to get on some more challenging slopes! Miss you Mum and Dad, tell Dio I love him and Sophie!

I'll leave you with a few pics and hope to get some more skiing ones tomorrow.. I'd like to say I couldn't get many today because of the conditions but to be honest, by the time I got my skis on the groups had pegged it and couldn't catch them!! Must be getting old!!

Catchya tomorrow - KC

  11. Wow, conditions looked tough yesterday! Bet you all slept well after a day like that on the slopes. Fingers crossed for a great day today, hopefully the weather will be better. So who has had the most embarrassing ski lift dismount, just wondering whether Harry is taking after his Dad on that front?

  12. Really great to hear about your adventures and how well everyone is doing.
Well done to Mr Cross and the team for making it all happen.
    The conditions certainly look challenging.
Kaltenbach looks good but lots of tricky drag lifts for the children to cope with.
Having checked the webcams it looks as if it is snowing pretty heavily again this morning (Tuesday).
The good news: the Penkenbahn is running, there is no whiteout and the forecast is for it to improve during the day.
Trust you all have another great day.
    Keep smiling for the camera!
